AC Milan have pulled out of the race to sign United target Joshua Zirkzee.
The Bologna forward, 23, has been heavily linked with both Milan and United over the last few months. United are understood to have made progress in their attempts to bring him to Old Trafford and optimistic they can wrap up a deal this month.
Milan have now shelved their interest in the Netherlands international, meaning United have one less competitor to compete with.
Milan, via advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, have now confirmed they are out of the running for the forward.
Ibrahimovic said:
“As I said before, we are studying, but we are in no hurry. The transfer window is long and I can promise that we’ll get new signings. We are talking, but nothing is close. Zirkzee is the past. As Paulo said, we have a player in mind. I won’t say his name. There is somebody, let’s see.”
