Hello and welcome to the Manchester Evening News Manchester United blog!
Manchester United kicked off pre-season with a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg BK, which Erik ten Hag was far from pleased with. The Dutchman absolutely blasted his players for their performance, claiming “this is not the standard for top football”… Ouch!
The Red Devils will return to action on Saturday when they lock horns with Rangers. In the meantime, Ten Hag will be hoping to welcome a few more new faces to Old Trafford following the arrival of Joshua Zirkzee.
The likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Jarrad Brathwaite and Xavi Simons continue to be heavily linked with moves to Carrington, but it remains unclear whether or not Sir Jim Ratcliffe will continue splashing the cash.
Lille defender Leny Yoro is also set to make a decision on his future, with Real Madrid yet to make any offer, leaving the door open for United. So, with that being said, stayed tuned as Manchester Evening News keep you up to date on all the latest news and transfer gossip.

Wharton eyed
Manchester United are eyeing up a move to sign Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton, according to CaughtOffside.
It’s claimed that the 20-year-old is on United’s radar after impressing for Palace since his £19million move from Blackburn in January. That form earned him a shock call-up to Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for Euro 2024, but he didn’t play a single minute in Germany.

De Ligt timeline
According to TeamTalk, Man United have held numerous rounds of talks with Bayern Munich as they try to finalise a deal for Matthijs de Ligt. The report states that the Red Devils are yet to meet the German club’s asking price – which is thought to be £42m.
The 24-year-old defender has been heavily linked with an exit from the Allianz Arena this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to further bolster his backline.

Toney stance
According to the MailOnline, Man United do not currently view Ivan Toney as a realistic signing this summer. The 28-year-old striker has been heavily linked with an exit from Brentford for a while now.
The report states that Toney has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, but a move is yet to materialise. Toney sees his contract at the G-Tech Community Stadium expire next year and talks over a new deal have not yet taken place.
