Following the appointment of Dan Ashworth earlier this week, expect transfer activity to start increasing at Manchester United.
Ashworth has been installed as the club’s inaugural sporting director and is expected to be tasked with playing a huge role in the direction of the club’s recruitment. United want to make several changes to the landscape of the squad this summer, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Wednesday, United are hopeful of wrapping up a deal for Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt. The German club are prepared to sell the 24-year-old, who is valued at £42million.
The Reds are also in the market for a striker this summer and have expressed interest in Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, who is currently with De Ligt at the European Championship as part of the Netherlands squad. He scored 12 goals for Bologna last term.
Meanwhile, United are continuing to be linked with a plethora of other potential incomings, including a surprise reunion with former loanee Sergio Reguilon. A report coming out of Spain on Wednesday linked the Reds with re-signing the Tottenham Hotspur defender.

Joao Neves update
United have reportedly had a £59million bid for Joao Neves rejected by Benfica.
Correio da Manha reports that Paris Saint-Germain also submitted an identical offer that the Portuguese club turned down. Arsenal and Chelsea are also credited with an interest in the teenager, but United are said to be the only Premier League club to formalize their interest with a proposal.
However, it has fallen short of Benfica’s valuation. The club are said to be holding out for the £101.5million release clause in the Portugal international’s contract.

United ‘frontrunner’ for Swiss star
United are reportedly the frontrunners to sign Switzerland international Dan Ndoye.
4-4-2.ch reports that the club have a concrete interest in the forward after contacting Bologna about the player to ascertain their asking price. The Italian club are said to want £21million for the 23-year-old.
It is suggested that United could be in pole position for the player, as Inter Milan has to sell Denzel Dumfries before formalising any interest in Ndoye. The reports also acknowledge that Basel has a 25% sell-on clause.
