Man United transfer news live Erik ten Hag latest and FA Cup final reaction

Must read

Manchester United won the FA Cup for a 13th time on Saturday after beating neighbours Manchester City 2-1 in the final at Wembley.

First-half goals from youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo sealed an impressive victory for Erik ten Hag’s side, who were the better team throughout. City halved the deficit through Jeremy Doku in the latter stages of the contest to set up a tense finale.

Almost all of the pre-match conversation from a United perspective was about Ten Hag’s future.

Ten Hag, unsurprisingly, came out fighting in his post-match press conference, insisting he will go “somewhere else” if Ineos decide they want to make a change in the dugout. The Dutchman has won two trophies in as many seasons in charge at Old Trafford.

With United’s campaign having now reached its conclusion, all eyes will be on Ineos’ decision-makers and the upcoming summer transfer window. The window will open for business on June 14.

Guardiola sends Ten Hag message to Ratcliffe

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola described United boss Erik ten Hag as an ‘extraordinary’ manager following the Reds’ FA Cup final triumph over his side at Wembley.

United won 2-1 underneath the famous arch yesterday, courtesy of goals from Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. However, it still might not be enough to keep Ten Hag in a job amid increasing uncertainty about his future at Old Trafford.

Guardiola told the media:

“They have to take a decision. He’s a lovely person and an extraordinary manager. Winning the FA Cup is important for them like last season it was for us.”

Rashford shares emotional message after FA Cup triumph

United forward Marcus Rashford posted an emotional message on his Instagram page following yesterday’s FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City at Wembley.

Recalled to the starting line up to start on the left of the attack, the academy graduate played a key role in helping United clinch a 13th FA Cup crown.

Clearly emotional after full-time, Rashford was pictured with tears rolling down his face as he applauded the fans and thanked them for their support.

United to ‘conduct season review’ before making Ten Hag decision

According to a report by The Athletic, United will ‘conduct a season review next week’ before making a decision on Erik ten Hag’s future as manager.

Despite leading the club to its 13th FA Cup crown at Wembley yesterday, Ten Hag’s future is yet to be decided. He remains under pressure after United finished eighth in the Premier League this season.

It is reported that club bosses, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos sporting director Sir David Brailsford, now intend to ‘objectively assess all aspects’ of the campaign.

Ten Hag comes out fighting after FA Cup triumph

United manager Erik ten Hag issued a defiant message to the Ineos Group in his post-match press conference at Wembley yesterday, telling them he will go “somewhere else” if they no longer want him in charge.

Ten Hag faces an uncertain future at M16 after a national newspaper report on Friday claimed he would be sacked following the FA Cup final.

Speaking to the media after his side’s 2-1 win over City, Ten Hag said:

“Two trophies in two years is not bad, three finals in two years is not bad. We have to keep going. I’m not satisfied with it, we have to do better and if they don’t want me any more then I go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I did my whole career.”

ICYMI: United player ratings vs City as duo star

United clinched their first FA Cup crown since 2016 with a superb 2-1 win over Manchester City at Wembley yesterday.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were on target in the first half to fire United into a commanding 2-0 lead by half-time. Jeremy Doku set up a tense finale after scoring late on but United held firm to get themselves over the line.

Our chief United writer, Samuel Luckhurst, was at Wembley and here is a flavour of how he rated the players out of 10…

Andre Onana

Had staggeringly little to do in the first half against a shot-shy City but brilliantly repelled Kyle Walker’s piledriver as City cranked up the pressure. Onana cracked when he conceded to Jeremy Doku. 6

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Defended solidly and was expertly guided by Raphael Varane on his last start for United. Jeremy Doku came on at half-time but Wan-Bissaka pocketed him. 8

Raphael Varane

Showed why Erik ten Hag has oft-lamented his and Lisandro Martinez’s absence. A last dance to savour on his final appearance for United. 8
