Marcus Rashford has taken the decision to remove himself from social media in the wake of a season that he’s labelled ‘challenging.’
The Manchester United forward has endured a difficult season and he has decided to take a rest from the glare of social media to reset himself mentally.
Last week he was left out of Gareth Southgate‘s final England squad ahead of Euro 2024, after a season where he has scored just eight goals for his club.
However, there was a positive end to his domestic campaign, as he helped United triumph over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
Posting on his X account, he admitted it was time to come off the platforms and spoke of the support he’s received from fans, and had a message for those who have not stood by him this season.
Rashford wrote: ‘It’s time to come off socials for a few weeks.
‘I plan to rest and reset mentally after a challenging season individually and collectively. Thanks to the fans that stood by me through a difficult period.
‘To the ones that didn’t just remember at United, we always stick together.’
The post comes days after Rashford was seen in tears at the end of the FA Cup final win, as the pure emotion of a difficult season poured out of the striker.
His performances have been largely criticised this season, and so much so, it’s led to a snub from England manager Gareth Southgate – someone who’s always been a big supporter of the striker.
Asked about his decision to axe Rashford for the tournament in Germany, Southgate stated that be believed other players in his positions have just had better seasons than the Red Devils man.
Rashford has scored just seven league goals all season, compared to the 17 he got last season – 30 in all competitions.
His season has also been marred with off the field issues, after he embarked on a 12-hour tequila bender in Belfast back in January and then reported ill for United training.
The antics did not go down with United fans, who despite the FA Cup win have also suffered a disappointing season, finishing in their worst-ever league position.
The United forward has also has to deal with the deaths of two people within his circle of family and friends, something his mother admitted during an interview with The Times, ‘set him back a lot’.
His performances this season has led to speculation he could be one of the big names to be sacrificed this summer, with Rashford linked with a possible move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Following his post, United fans showed support for a player they’ve taken to calling ‘king’ with messages looking forward to next season with the player still at the club.
‘Next season, we will see the best Rashford.’ One post read, while another told their star ‘Rest up & come back stronger, Rashy.’
Similar themes saw posts saying ‘We go again next season’ and ‘Come back stronger king!’
Others played on the scenes they saw from Rashford during Saturday’s FA Cup celebrations and said, ‘We see how this club means a lot to you king’.
In all, Rashford has played 402 games for club since bursting onto the scene as a teenager in 2015 and scored 131 goals.
