Manchester United have received a triple boost ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final after Mason Mount, Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof took part in training on Wednesday.

Mount has missed the last three games in an injury-hit season that has brought just eight starts since a £60million move from Chelsea, but could return to the squad against Manchester City at Wembley.

Martial hasn’t been seen since early December and needed groin surgery in January, making the starting line-up seven times this season.

The Frenchman is due to leave Old Trafford as a free agent after nine years at the club after United decided not to trigger the 12-month extension in his £250,000-a-week contract.

Victor Lindelof, who also faces an uncertain future at United, has missed the last 10 games after suffering a hamstring injury at Brentford at the end of March.

The news will give Erik ten Hag another lift after the United manager welcomed back Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane from long-term injuries in recent games.

Ten Hag still hopes Harry Maguire will win his fitness race to make the squad for Wembley, meaning United could have all five of their senior centre-backs available against City. At the very least, the bench should look a lot stronger after Ten Hag has been forced to pack it with teenagers.

‘Our centre-half position was a nightmare across the season,’ he said after winning at Brighton last weekend. ‘I’m glad we have something to choose and we have to think, of course, about quality but also about fitness levels. Probably we will need more than two next week.’

In the last two games, Ten Hag has used Bruno Fernandes as a false nine and may well stick with the same strategy against City, with Mount coming into contention with Scott McTominay for the No.10 spot.
