Manchester United are looking at signing centre-back Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea this summer, according to a new report.

The Red Devils had serious issues with injuries in defence last season, and were constantly relying on makeshift options to cover.

Meanwhile, the Blues look set to make several sales this summer, to boost their own transfer funds, and attempt to satisfy the Premier League‘s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The Independent report that Chalobah would be a target for Man United, with the 24-year-old appealing to the club as they look to bring in more youthful players.

However, any potential move for the former England youth level player would be dependent on Man United’s new recruitment approach, which is being finalised by INEOS.

Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire were both absent for most of the season with injuries

The departure of Raphael Varane has left Erik ten Hag‘s squad looking even thinner in central defence.

Varane and Harry Maguire suffered multiple fitness setbacks throughout the season, while Lisandro Martinez missed the majority of the campaign with injury.

It is thought Chelsea would want around £30m for Chalobah, with player sales required by June 30 to help with their PSR situation.

Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja are other Blues stars who could be sold this year for financial reasons.

Offloading players would be essential for PSR reasons, but also to help incoming boss Enzo Maresca make four new signings ahead of next season.

Chalobah was among a number of Chelsea players to thank Mauricio Pochettino and wish him well in the future following the news that he was leaving the club.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is another defender on Man United’s radar this summer, with the Red Devils looking to buy the centre-back for around £40m amid the Toffees’ own financial woes.
