Manchester United face a potential transfer dilemma this summer amid claims that Scott McTominay is receiving interest from abroad.
Recent reports in Turkish media outlet Milliyet have claimed that Galatasaray have submitted a combined offer of €25million, to around £20m, for McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Both players have just a year left on their contracts, though the Scotland international’s deal includes an option for a further year.
But the reported offer won’t go far with United unlikely to entertain such a low fee. They do however face an interesting conundrum with McTominay as they look to balance the books by staying in line with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The midfielder has risen through United’s academy, meaning that he will represent pure profit if sold. A potential sale could significantly boost United’s PSR situation which states that clubs are not allowed to lose more than £105m over three seasons.
McTominay was of interest to West Ham last summer with United rejecting a £30m bid from the Hammers. And Erik ten Hag will have been relieved that the Scot remained at Old Trafford after scoring some crucial goals in 2023/24.
The 27-year-old netted a career-best 10 goals across all competitions for United in 23/24 which included winning moments against Brentford and Chelsea when United’s manager was under pressure.
Ten Hag may not be saved by McTominay’s winning goals as the board continue to review his position. However, if he remains in charge for another campaign then the Dutchman may be hoping the United midfielder sticks around as well.
McTominay may not possess the technical ability of Bruno Fernandes but his work ethic has been a huge asset to United. When called upon, he very rarely lets the team down.
Of course, there is always the chance that he wishes to explore other options, with many of his 32 appearances in 23/24 coming off the bench. But if he chooses to stay then United may be faced with a tough decision as Ineos look to reshape the club’s first-team squad.
