Man United appoint former Man City and Chelsea figure in further Ineos shake-up

Must read

Manchester United have appointed former Chelsea communications boss Toby Craig as their new chief communications officer, with Ellie Norman set to leave her role at the club.

Craig starts work in his new role at United on Wednesday (June 5) and is another Ineos appointment who has a background at Manchester City, having worked at the club for eight years as director of corporate affairs for the City Football Group.

In that role, Craig became close to Omar Berrada, who was chief operations officer at City and will start work as United’s new chief executive on July 13. Craig left his role at City in 2022 to become the director of communications and public affairs at Chelsea, spending a year at Stamford Bridge before leaving.

Norman spent 20 months as chief communications officer at United, having previously worked in Formula One, and she is set to move on to a new external role.

Ineos are set to redefine the position following Craig’s appointment, with a greater focus on the football side of the business. Norman’s role had seen her take on a wider remit, including fan engagement, brand, content and marketing. Craig is expected to be involved in external communications and public affairs.

The appointment is another sign of Ineos turning the focus back to on-pitch events since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.25bn investment into the club in February, with Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford overseeing changes at United.
