An elderly man, who claims he has been left without a working TV for ten weeks, says he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Joseph Lafferty, 78, from Walton, has been forced to go to the pub just to watch TV after the aerial in his building has “broken.”

Joseph, who lives in Heathergreen Court, claims all 18 flats in the building have been left without a working TV after the aerial, on top of the complex, stopped receiving a signal in September this year. He says the issue has been reported to Your Housing Group, who own the building, however nothing has been done to fix it.

Your Housing Group has apologised to its residents who have been affected by the issue at Heathergreen Court. It says the problem occurred following completion of recent works in the roof space at the property, causing some residents to be affected by issues with their TV signal.

The 78-year-old, who lives by himself and uses the television as a means of company, said: “I’ve had no TV for ten weeks and it’s been reported to the warden. There are 18 flats in this block and not one of our TVs are working.

“I have a modern TV and nothing is working, we just want it fixed. I have one of those indoor aerials but it’s not working. The radio has stopped working too so I’ve had to sit there [pointing to his bed] and read.”

Joseph, who has lived in Heathergreen Court for 14 years, told the ECHO how his current situation is giving him a “nervous breakdown” he saidL “It has not been nice for me, I live by myself, it’s not good.

“I’ve been having to go out to the pub to watch the television, it’s not good. I’m home by myself and it’s lonely without the TV. It’s not nice having to sit here with no TV, no nothing. I’m on the verge of a nervous breakdown, ten weeks it’s been like this, it’s awful.”

A spokesperson for Your Housing Group said: “At Your Housing Group, we pride ourselves on providing our residents a place to call home and we are sorry that there is an issue affecting those living at Heathergreen Court. Unfortunately, following completion of recent works in roofspaces at the property, some of our residents have been affected by issues with their TV signal.

”Our inspectors have been on site and upgrade works have been approved to start at the property before the end of November. We have also been in touch with all seven customers affected and have offered them a temporary solution. We will continue to support all residents in the property until the issue is resolved.”
