A man has died after being electrocuted in a jacuzzi whilst on holiday in Mexico.
Jorge Guillen, 43, from Texas, died after suffering an ‘electric discharge’ in a jacuzzi whilst on holiday at a private resort in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, Mexican officials said.
Lizette Zambrano, 35, was also rushed to hospital following the incident and remains in a critical condition, the couple’s family members have said.
According to state of Sonora officials, the couple were in the jacuzzi just after 8:30pm on Tuesday (11 June) at Sonoran Sea Resort.
Eyewitnesses first noticed that the couple were not moving in the jacuzzi before calling emergency services and attempting CPR, the General Prosecutor’s Office said as per The Daily Mail.

One witness reportedly told officers that she’d tried to enter the tub to help the couple, but was shocked by the water.
A video that captured the incident has also been doing the rounds on social media and local media, which shows crowds of people gathered around the jacuzzi as others can be heard screaming for ‘help’ as someone performs CPR on a person lying on the ground, CBS reports.
As reported by The Daily Mail, a friend of Lizette’s also posted on Facebook to express her heartbreak at the tragic incident.
She wrote: “As I woke up this morning we received a message from our best friend’s mom. A message you don’t want to wake up to.
“As many of you have seen on social media and the news, a tragic event happened. I will not go into detail here.
“It would be greatly appreciated if you all could donate to help get Jorge home and help with medical expenses.”

“Lizzette has a way to go in recovery and we are all here to help her through.”
A GoFundMe has now been set up to help with expenses, with a post attached which reads: “Our best friends have experienced a horrible accident.
“Jorge had a heart of gold and was always there for family and friends.
“The love they shared was one for ages. We are asking for your help to bring him home & help with medical expenses for her.”
As of writing, the GoFundMe has raised $24,000 of it’s goal.
On their Facebook page, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Justice of the State of Sonora wrote that an investigation was currently looking into the cause of the ‘electric discharge’.
They also added that they will be releasing the details of the incident later.
