Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed they responded to the scene, where they found one man dead, and transported another man to a local hospital by air and another by ground.

Another person was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Miami-Dade Police said the incident began as a fight between two groups that ended in gunfire.

Police say a vehicle fled from the scene but officers caught up with the driver and passengers less than a mile away.

Five people were detained, and police said they weren’t searching for any other suspects.

“There are many facets of this very hectic situation that our detectives are investigating. There was a vehicle that was stopped with several individuals that are now detained and are going to be interviewed by our detectives to find out what their involvement in the situation was,” Miami-Dade Police Det. Andre Martin said.

Police haven’t released the identity of the person who was killed or anyone else who was involved in the incident.

A woman who didn’t want to be identified was working in the plaza where police detained three of the five people.

“We were kind of scared we were debating whether we should leave or not,” she said. “We started to get scared because it wasn’t just regular police guns, they were big rifle guns.”

Family members of some of the men detained showed up at the scene and watched police take them away. The witness and others working in the area watched from a distance.

“It’s scary to know things like this are happening right under our noses and we don’t realize it until it’s too late,” she said.

No other information was immediately known.
