Man City have 24 hours to complete sensational transfer amid Newcastle tactic

Must read

Manchester City will be wanting to utilise a considered transfer strategy this summer but some quick work now could see them seal a dream transfer.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle find themselves in a mad scramble to avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). On Sunday, June 30 the deadline will pass for Premier League teams to complete deals to ensure they have not made losses in excess of £105m.

It is believed that the Magpies are in such desperate need of sales they have offered Anthony Gordon to Liverpool in exchange for their defender Jarell Quansah. This was rejected by the Merseyside club but it perhaps shows the desperate position find themselves in.

If Newcastle cannot find a solution to this issue, they run the risk of a significant points deduction akin to that which Everton and Nottingham Forest suffered last season. Fortunately for City, this could benefit them.

The Blues are thought to be interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer. Defensive midfield is likely to be an area which needs strengthening this pre-season as Kalvin Phillips is expected to be sold.

Recently, Guimaraes’ £100m release clause at St James’ Park expired which was thought to have strengthened Newcastle’s resolve to keep the midfielder. While Eddie Howe would be reluctant to sell the midfielder, he may not have another choice if that is the difference between avoiding a points deduction and not.
