A major Liverpool road has been closed until tomorrow due to two fallen trees. Liverpool City Council has confirmed that Croxteth Hall Lane will remain shut after the fallen trees presented a risk to safety.

The closure is in place from Deysbrook Lane to Oak Lane. Elsewhere the council has confirmed that there are road closures on Beauclair Drive (L18), Green Bank Road (L18) and Central Drive (L12). In a statement posted on X, formely Twitter, Liverpool City Council said: “Croxteth Hall Lane, from Deysbrook Lane to Oak Lane is closed until tomorrow due to two fallen trees presenting risks to safety.”

Storm Darragh has wreaked havoc across Merseyside after the region was issued with an amber weather warning by the Met Office. The Merseyside Derby was called off, as well at a race meeting at Aintree being cancelled.

In Liverpool city centre, Church Street has been closed until further notice due to a risk posed by a damaged building. People are being urged to avoid Church Street after damage to the building where Next is located.

Storm Darragh also saw off Liverpool Christmas Markets, as well as the public viewing on the HMS Prince of Wales being cancelled. The Met Office’s amber weather warning is in place until 9pm tonight, but a yellow weather warning remains in place until 6pm tomorrow.

Merseyrail has suffered delays and cancellations due to the weather today. Gusts of 93mph have been recorded in some parts of the country, while millions of people have been warned to stay indoors, thousands are without power, and trains have been cancelled.
