Machine Gun Kelly revealed he has been sober for nearly 12 months after quietly entering rehab last year.
The doting dad, 34, who threw a surprise bash to celebrate his daughter Casie’s 15th birthday, explained his decision in an interview with Bunnie XO, 44, on the Dumb Blonde podcast.
‘I’m completely sober from everything. I don’t drink anymore,’ the God Save Me artist said in the episode released August 5, adding, ‘I haven’t drank since last August.’
The Billboard Music Award winner said he decided to see medical treatment for his addiction after completing the European leg of his Mainstream Sellout Tour.
‘I didn’t tell anybody outside of the [people] closest to me,’ he explained.

‘That was my first time I ever went to rehab. They just gave me so many ways to operate the body and show where this anger is coming from and methods to quell it.’
In the interview MGK spoke candidly about his traumatic childhood, growing up with his very strict father, who also suffered from mental illness.
‘I didn’t hear the word “mom” during my teenage years, all I heard was “whore.”
‘There’s a song that you say “My heart was broke like my ribs as a kid when me and my father fought,” did you dad break your ribs?’ Bunnie asked.
‘Yeah, and vice versa. Both of us got f**ked up. That specific fight was in our kitchen in Cleveland. That was pretty common and I acted out a lot. It got to the point where I could fight back, I was just on it. ‘
The hitmaker said finding the right therapist for him took some work.
‘I met with a lot of psychiatrists, some who gave up on me and many therapists who did the same. But I ended up falling into an awareness of what my condition is and have made peace with it. It’s a constant tightrope walk.’
MGK did not elaborate on what his ‘condition’ is, explaining, ‘That one feels a little too brand new for me to confidently say.’

The See My Tears artist said he was tempted to fall off the wagon, when shooting the Lonely Road video with Bunnie XO’s husband, Jelly Roll.
The influencer praised MGK for not losing his resolve. ‘You hold to that,’ the 44-year-old said. I actually wanted you to have a drinking contest with my husband and you were like, “No, I’m sober.”‘
Kelly replied, ‘It just kills me because I just know I would have f**ing drank that man under the table. He rented out the bowling alley and the drinks kept coming,’ he said of the shoot.
‘That was probably the second night in this process that I’ve had where I’ve ever just been looking. And it was probably just from that place of ego where I was just like, “Jelly, I just want to drink you under the table.”‘
However, the next day, the now teetotal artist knew he’d made the right decision when he was Jelly, 39 on the set. ‘I saw his condition and I saw mine and I was like, “Yeah, I made the right choice,” It was rough.’

As he looks toward the future, the singer and songwriter is taking it one day at a time, ‘I continue to embrace that this journey is gonna be hard for me, but I accept it and forgive myself.’
‘I’m also really hard on myself, very self-deprecating. So, I guess, I’m just happy that I’m able to start to be comfortable enough to show people who I am, because I kind of depended on my art to do that.
