England left-back has given a worrying update regarding his fitness for Euro 2024 as he attempts to battle back from injury.
Shaw is the only left-back named by Gareth Southgate in his 33-man training squad ahead of Euro 2024, which kicks off in Germany next month, despite the Manchester United star missing the end of the season and United’s victorious FA Cup final through injury.
The 28-year-old has been ruled out with a muscle injury since February after he was forced off against Luton Town.

Following United’s FA Cup final triumph against Manchester City on Saturday (May 25), Shaw joined in the celebrations in his training kit and posed for team pictures alongside the other absentees from Erik ten Hag’s side.
Posting a snap of his team-mates celebrating the cup win on Instagram, Shaw wrote an honest statement to United fans as he reaffirmed his loyalty to the club after some fans had questioned the true extent of his fitness issue.
Who do you think should start at left-back for England at Euro 2024? Let us know in the comments section.
“This has definitely been the most frustrating season for me,” an excerpt of Shaw’s message read. “I have had set back after set back and have worked so hard to get back to fitness but things just haven’t gone my way.
“I pushed so hard to get back before the end of the season and the final but some things just aren’t meant to be. There’s nothing I want to do more than play and win with @manchesterunited.
“I don’t normally react to things I see on social media but there’s a lot of people questioning my loyalty to this club and asking how I am fit for England but not United. The reality is I am not 100% fit for either right now but I am doing everything I can and constantly working to be.”
Shaw is the only natural left-back named in Southgate’s squad with Ben Chilwell missing out amid his injury-hit season, while both Tyrick Mitchell and Levi Colwill have been overlooked.
The two most obvious candidates to start at left-back for the Three Lions in Shaw’s absence would be Kieran Trippier or Joe Gomez.
