‘Lord help us’ – Luke Littler left baffled by one inclusion in England squad

Darts sensation Luke Littler was left bemused by one particular inclusion in England’s Euro 2024 squad.

England manager Gareth Southgate announced his final 26-man squad for the Euros on Thursday with some notable omissions.

Jack Grealish and James Maddison were among the surprise names to get axed, while Harry Maguire missed out due to injury.

Jarrad Branthwaite, Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah and James Trafford were the other men to lose their place.

Teenage star Littler took to Instagram sharing a post confirming the seven players to be cut from the 33-man provisional squad and said: “But Lewis Dunk gets in (facepalm emoji).”

He then suggested that he wasn’t happy with the squad as a whole by sharing a picture of the chosen 26 players alongside the words: “Lord help us.”

Ironically, Littler himself was included in England’s Euro 2024 announcement video on Thursday.

The video saw fans, sports stars and broadcasters play a role in announcing each player who would represent England this summer.

Littler was seen throwing throwing a dart before wiping the England badge on his shirt.

Southgate has opted for a youthful squad ahead of the Euros which kicks off on July 14 in Germany.

The England manager is hoping his side can go one better than in 2021 when the Three Lions were beaten on penalties in the final by Italy.

England have never won the European Championships but bookmakers expect them to reign supreme this summer.

The final squad has divided opinion however Southgate admits he’s hugely excited by the players at his disposal.

“There’s some disappointment today but there’ll be a lot of excitement about players we’ve selected and to see some of the players who mean we’ve got a different look about us in terms of how we play,” Southgate said.

“I think people will be captivated by that. For some [players], they’ve had few opportunities to play at Wembley and that’s hugely exciting for them.

“I’m trying to conduct myself respectfully because of the players who have gone today. But equally I’m hugely excited about the squad.”
