London travel news LIVE: Stansted Express services suspended after person hit by train near Bishop’s Stortford

Stansted Express services have been disrupted after a person was hit by a train near Bishop’s Stortford on Tuesday morning.

All lines between Bishop’s Stortford and the airport are blocked as emergency services respond to the incident, with Greater Anglia and Stansted Express attempting to establish a rail replacement service.

Also affected are CrossCountry services between the airport and Birmingham New Street, and Greater Anglia services between Stratford and Bishop’s Stortford.

Passengers are being warned to expect disruption until further notice as trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Some services that run between Stansted Airport and Cambridge are also impacted, as there is currently no onward travel from Audley End to Bishops Stortford and London Liverpool Street.

Avanti West Coast also hit with delays

Separately to the incident affecting services to Stansted, Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern services to Euston are currently being delayed.

This is because a safety inspection of the track means one of the lines from Rugby towards Milton Keynes Central is blocked, said National Rail.

As a result, services between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted.

Disruption is expected until 11am.

Rail replacement buses to run

Greater Anglia and Stansted Express have said they are currently trying to resource rail replacement buses to operate between Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted Airport / Audley End.

Train services from Cambridge are currently terminating at Audley End. This means there is no onward travel from Audley End to Bishop’s Stortford and Liverpool Street.

CrossCountry services between Stansted Airport and Birmingham New Street have also been impacted.

While the emergency services respond to the scene, all lines between the two stations will be closed.

It means Stansted Express services are suspended, while some services that run between Stansted Airport and Cambridge are also impacted.

Trains will be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised.
