Livid Loose Women fans urge James Martin to ‘move with the times’ after ‘daft, money-wasting’ cooking confession on ITV show

Livid Loose Women fans urged James Martin to ‘move with the times’ as he shared a controversial cooking opinion.

During Monday’s instalment of the daytime programme, the British chef, 52, joined the panel to discuss his new book Cheese, which features a whopping 100 recipes for ultimate cheese lovers.

However, the conversation quickly drifted from his book to his dislike of air fryers – a kitchen appliance that cooks food by circulating hot air around it, creating a crispy exterior without the need for a lot of oil.

While discussing how his grandma taught him how to cook, James said: ‘Yeah my nana (and) my grandpa (taught me to cook), none of my family were chefs, but my granny was the most amazing cook.’

‘My auntie used to make the most amazing patisserie, she never had a machine, it was all no air fryers then.’

‘She used to make shortbread whilst she was watching Corrie and then she would put it all together and it used to melt in your mouth.’

‘It was the most amazing thing, so I’ve always tried to replicate that in everything that I do.’

Denise Welch then asked the TV show host why air fryers are ‘not his thing,’ to which he claimed that people should just use an oven.

He said: ‘We’re not against them, we just cope perfectly well without them, I just get the feeling that in a few years’ time they’re gonna be in this same place,’

‘Do you remember those liquid globe things that we used to have in the eighties (lava lamps), it’s gonna be the same context of that.’

He quipped: ‘I just think we’ve coped so well without them, we’ve got this thing in the kitchen it’s called an oven, just use it.’

Viewers then took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their anger over James’ comments, claiming ‘it’s clear he doesn’t have to worry about his gas or electric usage’ as air fryers are generally cheaper to run than an oven.

One fan fumed: ‘Cooking for just one or two people in your oven is daft! Costs more to cook the food than it did to buy it.’; ‘I think James Martin is wrong about air fryers – It’s too expensive to heat up and use a gas or electric oven when cooking a few items,’

‘Ovens cost more to run you idiot, airfryers are much more economical to use, it’s called moving with the times!’

It comes after Ben Shephard left James and Cat Deeley blushing after making a rude comment during last Thursday’s cooking segment on This Morning.

TV chef James was on the breakfast programme to show viewers how to rustle up delicious buffalo wings and loaded potato skins.

Cat, 48, and Ben, 49, were delighted to have him on the show as they tucked into the ‘finger-licking’ food, with James revealing he made enough for the whole production team.

However, it was Ben who made a hilarious tongue-in-cheek comment that caused Cat to cut him off.

As they devoured the loaded potato skins, which were topped off with a homemade barbecue sauce, Ben quipped: ‘Do you do massages in this sauce? Because I’m quite ready to be drizzled on.’

Shocked, Cat grimaced before laughing: ‘That is a different show’.
