Must read

Liverpool’s senior men’s team isn’t the only one looking to wrap up their preparations ahead of next week’s league start: the U18 Premier League kicks off next week with the Baby Reds taking on Derby. To ensure prime fitness, the U18s – with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson at the helm – took on Reading for their final run out before the new campaign begins.

Unfortunately, while the young group spent nearly the entire match playing Reading level, the Royals took advantage of a mistake in midfield and put the winner in right at the last minute. Still, the Liverpool gaffer had some positives to take out of the match.

“Performance-wise, I thought we were good – good in the first period, very good in the second. But obviously we’re just disappointed to lose the game.”

The Academy has gotten recent shine as the improvements implemented over the years that FSG has held the the club have seen breakthroughs from the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, and Jarell Quansah. And given the performances the group put in during the domestic cup runs under Jurgen Klopp last season, the expectations of the Academy have only gone sky high.

Here’s hoping the kids can continue to progress and that what appears like the dawning of a golden generation in the Academy comes to fruition.
