Liverpool transfer stance on Yankuba Minteh confirmed after £40m claim

Must read

Liverpool are not planning on reuniting Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh with new head coach Arne Slot this summer.

Minteh, a 19-year-old Gambia international winger, has enjoyed an impressive campaign at Feyenoord, where he was sent on loan by the Magpies having been signed from Danish side Odense OB for £6.5million last summer.

Under the tutelage of Slot, Minteh made 37 appearances and scored 11 goals and delivered six assists, although he was sent off during the Dutch Cup final win over NEC Nijmegen.

Despite his success in Holland, Newcastle are being compelled to consider offers to sell Minteh given their need to sell players this summer to comply with Premier League profit and sustainability rules and help fund their own recruitment plans.

That has prompted suggestions Liverpool are among a host of clubs, including potential suitors from Italy and Germany, who are contemplating a move for the player, who Newcastle now value at £40m.

However, the ECHO understands the Reds, while looking to sign a wide player during the forthcoming transfer window, have no current interest in making a move for Minteh despite Slot’s admiration of the teenager.
