Arne Slot will officially become Liverpool’s new head coach next month.

One Liverpool star has spoken about his future after holding talks with incoming boss Arne Slot.

Dutchman Slot has the almost impossible task of following in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp in the summer when he takes over as Liverpool’s new head coach.

The 45-year-old impressed during his spells with Dutch clubs AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord. As a result, Liverpool have made him their choice to replace Klopp.

Ahead of the summer, Slot will have the tough task of convincing stars such as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay at the club.

Both above-mentioned players are heading into the last year of their contracts. Speaking recently, Reds captain Van Dijk revealed he had already held talks with Slot and gave an indication on his future.

As reported by The Standard, Van Dijk told NOS: “That felt good. We discussed everything. About the squad, but also about my personal situation. I am and will remain the captain and still have one year left on my contract.”

After Liverpool’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the Premier League, the 32-year-old said: “My future is not important at the moment. There is so much room for improvement, so much room to develop. I am looking forward to next season already.

“Change is sometimes a little bit scary as you are in the unknown but the only thing you can do is trust the club. It is all about sticking together and giving him the chance to show what he is capable of with the other guys who will come in.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool vice-captain Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports during the Monaco Grand Prix: “I have trust in the club and who we’ve appointed.

“As a player, that’s all you can ask for: to have trust in what the higher-ups have brought in. I’m sure it will be a smooth transition.”
