Liverpool ‘eyeing Germany star’ as Slot braced for five-club transfer battle

Must read

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Germany and Stuttgart centre-back Waldemar Anton.

The 27-year-old captained his domestic side this past season and his form in the Bundesliga caught the attention of Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann. Anton was handed his first senior international call-up in March and has made two appearances since then.

Unfortunately, Liverpool fans did not catch a glimpse of him on Friday night as he was an unused substitute but it is claimed by Bild that the Reds are keeping a close eye on the defender. It is understood Arne Slot’s team have registered interest in the centre-back and are aware of his release clause.

An offer of £19m would be enough to activate the release clause but Liverpool are not alone in their interest. It is believed both Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen have also been keen admirers of Anton.

Elsewhere, the Reds are reportedly in the midst of a five-way Premier League battle for Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo. The right-sided winger caught the eye in La Liga last season with Liverpool, as well as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur able to see the potential in the Japanese international.

According to Mundo Deportivo, contrary to reports in the UK, Spurs have not yet submitted an offer of £50m for the forward. It was claimed earlier this week that this bad had been rejected.
