Liverpool will be under the control of Dutchman Arne Slot next season and the Reds have confirmed that the club’s playing squad has already undergone major changes ahead of the 2024/25 season
Liverpool have announced that 10 players have left the club including cult heroes Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.
The pair’s exits were confirmed last month, with their contracts due to expire. Both Matip and Thiago were given the opportunity to bid emotional farewells to the club after the final day win against Wolves – which was also Jurgen Klopp’s final game in charge.
The departures do not end there. The Reds have confirmed that a clutch of academy starlets will be leaving. Adam Lewis and Melkamu Frauendorf are both leaving, having been afforded first-team debuts under Klopp.
Mateusz Musialowski, who appeared against Sparta Prague earlier this season, will also be bidding farewell. Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne and Cody Pennington are all also leaving Anfield.
A club statement read: “Everyone at Liverpool FC thanks Joel, Thiago, Adam, Melkamu, Mateusz, Nathan, Francis, Luke, Niall and Cody for all their contributions and wishes them each the very best for the future.”
While there are plenty of departures, the Reds are also in the process of tying down stars to new deals. Spanish stopper Adrian has been offered fresh terms to stay with the club.
Academy goalkeepers Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman are also in talks regarding extended stays at Anfield. Work will now begin on Liverpool’s summer transfer window.
Replacements will likely have to be found for both Matip and Thiago. Speaking after his exit was confirmed, the Cameroon defender said: “It has been eight wonderful years here in Liverpool.

“I was allowed to be part of an exciting history with a great coach and an astonishing team in an extraordinary club. We have achieved great titles and have the best fans in the world.
“I am full of gratitude for the wonderful time I was able to experience with these unique people supporting the club and the fans who love Liverpool FC.
“My wife and I have felt welcomed and supported from day one and together with the kids we had the best imaginable time here. We will always keep it in special memories.”
Matip missed large swaths of his final season with Liverpool. The defender – who made over 200 appearances for the club – suffered a serious knee injury last term. Thiago’s contributions were also limited due to recurring fitness issues.
