LILY Allen has come under fire from furious fans after admitting she ‘gave back’ her adopted dog because it ate her kids’ passports.
The singer, 39, claimed the pooch ‘ruined her life’ and meant her girls – Ethel and Marnie – were unable to visit their dad Sam Cooper in England for some time.
But her comments have sparked outrage online, with one person remarking: “You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their pets.”
A second said: “Did she take responsibility for leaving the passports somewhere a puppy could get to them? No. She got rid of the dog. What an awful person.”
While a third wrote: “Blame the pet for your own irresponsible decisions. Typical loser behaviour.”
And a fourth added: “She didn’t deserve that dog.”
Lily, who now lives in New York with actor David Harbour, didn’t name the dog but it’s thought she is referring to a dog called Mary.
The pooch was adopted in New York in 2021 and even briefly had it’s own Instagram page, which wasn’t updated after a just a week or so.
Speaking about the situation on her Miss Me? podcast, Lily said: “We actually did adopt a dog already, but then it ate my passport and so I took her back to the home.
“She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas in.
“And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced, because it was in Covid and so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.
“And because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f***ing dog had eaten the passports.
“And I just couldn’t look at her. I was like ‘you’ve ruined my life’.
“Passports weren’t the only thing she ate, she was a very badly behaved dog and I really tried very hard with her, but it just didn’t work out and the passports were the straw that broke the camel’s back so to speak.”
Despite the problems caused by her previous dog, she is planning to soon get another pooch, which she and daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, have decided to call Jude Bellingham after the England footballer.
The star said the new puppy the family have set their hearts on is a Chihuahua mix.
