Lily Allen blasted as she accused of mocking ‘working-class’ England fans

During the England Football team’s heartbreaking Euro 2024 final defeat against Spain on Sunday night, with a final score of 2-1, singer Lily Allen shared an AI image which struck a nerve on Twitter.

The image Lilly shared with her 4.9 million followers was of several bald topless overweight men who had Union Jack flags wrapped around them as they were crying while holding pints of beer sitting in a field.

Rain was pouring down in the image, and many people’s faces were covered by umbrellas in the background, drawing attention to the sobbing men in the foreground.

More than eight million people saw the post which was captionless, and many flocked to the comment section to voice their issues with the image.

One person was angry that the 39-year-old Smile singer shared a picture of the Union Jack flag instead of the England flag.

They tweeted: “Wrong flag you muppet. Imagine hating the country that made you famous, talk about white guilt. And didn’t your dad star in the England tune ‘Vindaloo’? Bet your Dad’s proud of you.”

Sparking a debate, Lara penned: “Why do you despise the working class?”

A third remarked: “Isn’t this your dad staring in the hit football song for England’s euro 2000 Vindaloo? Also thanks for completely disregarding men’s mental health. As you were!”

Lily’s father Keith wrote the lyrics to the football anthem Vindaloo ahead of the 1998 World Cup.

The hit was released before the tournament kicked off and was initially penned as a parody of football chants.

A fourth fan wrote: “Your dad literally made a song for the English football team.”

Despite the backlash, another person with a different view shared: “It’s not the country it’s the idiots singing “footballs coming home” every single time, you look like a bunch of idiots, it hasn’t “come home” since my mum was 6. Just say, “Let’s hope they do well” and stop looking like idiots.”

Another person noted: “This tweet is gold, so many crybabies over a simple post.”

England lost after Mikel Oyarzabal’s goal in the 86th minute sealed the win for Spain.
