A new toxicology report has shed light on the tragic circumstances surrounding One Direction star Liam Payne’s fatal fall, as a number of hotel staff are being investigated
A toxicology report has shed new light on the tragic death of Liam Payne.
The 31-year-old singer died on October 16 when he fell from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A funeral for the beloved singer was held at the end of last month, with his family and the likes of his ex Cheryl and One Direction bandmates in attendance.
Liam died from multiple injuries sustained from the balcony fall and suffered “internal and external bleeding”. And now a toxicology report has revealed the harrowing new details of the One Direction star’s final moments.
As the investigation into the star’s death continues, it has emerged that two hotel staff members, including the concerned receptionist who raised concerns over Liam’s erratic behaviour, could be facing charges. Three others are also being questioned, with two suspected of supplying Liam drugs and another facing allegations of neglect resulting in death.
On November 7, an official toxicology report laid bare the grim reality, finding “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” coursing through Liam’s veins. The findings have squashed any suicide theories, instead painting a picture of confusion or unconsciousness leading up to his fatal fall.
The report chillingly noted that the young dad, whose plunge has been linked to a drug-fuelled “psychotic episode”, didn’t brace himself for impact, suggesting he might’ve been unconscious or in a daze when he fell.
The investigation into Liam’s tragic fall has led to a shocking development, with investigators concluding that he wasn’t fully conscious at the time of the incident. They stated: “For the prosecution, this situation would also rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act on the part of the victim since, in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing and could not understand it,” reports OK!.
Rolling Stone has unearthed new documents indicating that the judge is mulling over charges against two CasaSur employees, including the receptionist head who dialled 911 twice during the time of Liam’s demise and is still employed at the hotel.
The judge has called in all the suspects for a grilling as the probe marches on. A recent legal document dated Monday, December 9, brands the CasaSur Palermo staff as “imputados,” meaning “people charged,” and demands they be informed.
Yet, the exact charges they’re up against remain unknown. The second hotel worker has been pegged by the esteemed Argentinian news outlet Infobae as the security boss.
Moreover, the site has disclosed that Judge Laura Bruniard, now back at the helm of the investigation after her recusal was overturned on appeal, has ordered the pair to hire a defence barrister so she can investigate them under oath.
Two hotel employees suspected of being linked to Liam’s death will appear in court on December 19. According to the official summons: “Since there is sufficient reason to suspect that they have participated in the investigated act, we ask that the following people give a statement.”
In Buenos Aires’ legal system, the judge will decide after interrogation whether to go ahead with further prosecution, drop charges, or declare a lack of sufficient evidence.
