Lewis Dobbin makes ‘ambitions’ point as he seals Villa transfer

Must read

Lewis Dobbin considers his move to Aston Villa to be an ‘incredible opportunity’ after his switch from Everton to Villa Park was confirmed on Sunday afternoon. Winger Dobbin joins Villa in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £10m, 24 hours after midfielder Tim Iroegbunam completed the reverse move for a similar fee in a separate deal.

Dobbin, 21, brings to an end ten years at Goodison Park upon joining Villa and becomes their first of what is expected to be a flurry of transfers in the near future, and a busy summer in full. Dobbin, who made 15 first-team appearances for the Toffees and scored five goals in 54 appearances on loan at Derby in 2022-23 was very pleased to have completed the move to the West Midlands.

“So happy to be joining such a huge club with big ambitions,” he posted. “An incredible opportunity, I can’t wait to get started and give my all for this club. See you all at Villa Park! UTV.”

Dobbin also paid tribute to those who had helped to develop him during his extended stay on Merseyside, where he had transformed himself as an academy player and broken into the first-team ranks under Sean Dyche. Dobbin scored his only Premier League goal in a win over Chelsea in December.

“Since the age of 11, I’ve called this club home,” he added. “A lifetime of memories. There’s been high points and lows but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I want to thank everyone associated with the club, from the staff, the players, the people behind the scenes, but most importantly you fans.

“Thankyou for your constant support and messages. I felt like now was the right time to start a new adventure and continue to give it my all to achieve my dreams. I’ll forever be grateful for this club and wish you all nothing but the best in the future. Thank you Blues.”
