Bayer Leverkusen have become the Bundesliga’s first ever Invincible champions in a historic campaign under Xabi Alonso.
Leverkusen beat FC Augsburg 2-1 on Saturday on the final day to see them go 34 games unbeaten throughout the entire campaign.
Victory has come on 28 of those occasions, with Alonso’s side sealing the title as early as mid-April to end Bayern Munich’s 11-year reign.
But they went one step further on the final day against Augsburg to make history in the German top-flight, with their unbeaten run in all competitions this season extending to an incredible 51 matches.
Leverkusen join an elite list of Invincible title winners across Europe including AC Milan in 1992 and Juventus in 2012, as well as Arsenal in 2004 when they lifted the Premier League having won 26 games and drawn 12.
Leverkusen have won 82.4 per cent of their Bundesliga matches this season compared to the Gunners claiming victory in just 68.4 per cent of their Premier League fixtures in the 2003/04 campaign.

And fans on social media believe Leverkusen’s achievement is better with one taking to X to say: “Clears Arsenal by far.”
“Bayer Leverkusen clears Arsenal’s unbeaten run!” added a second in agreement.
A third said: “I think Bayern Leverkusen’s invincible is better than Arsenal’s. Keep in mind Bayern has won their league 10yrs straight, I’m surprised they’ve never gone unbeaten within that time span.”
“Leverkusen’s record p****s all over Arsenals.. The Germans haven’t lost all season in any game.. Arsenal lost in the cups that season,” said a fourth.
The German side are also unbeaten in the DFB-Pokal and Europa League, whereas the Gunners were defeated in the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League.
Another impressive factor in Leverkusen’s success is preventing Bayern from winning a 12th consecutive league title.
However, it should be pointed out that a Bundesliga season is 34 games, while a Premier League campaign is 38 matches.
It remains a testament to their incredible work under manager Alonso, who reiterated his commitment to the club amid interest from Liverpool.
Next is the Europa League final against Atalanta on Wednesday night before the DFB-Pokal final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern three days later, which could see them win a treble in a stunning unbeaten run of 53 matches across all competitions.
