Leicester have reopened talks with Steve Cooper despite verbally agreeing terms with Graham Potter, talkSPORT understands.
We reported the Foxes believed they were close to formalising a deal with Potter to become their new manager after positive talks with the former Chelsea and Brighton boss.
But with Potter stalling and owner Vichai ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprahba eager not to delay the appointment too much longer, ex-Nottingham Forest manager Cooper is back in the frame.
Potter, who has not been discounted from the race, has twice turned down Ajax this summer.
The former Seagulls manager has been out of work since April 2023 following his dismissal at Stamford Bridge.
Leicester’s director of football Jon Rudkin has led the push for Potter.
talkSPORT understands there is no issue with personal terms with Potter.
The Foxes had also shortlisted West Brom’s Carlos Corberan, but would have to pay compensation to the Baggies.
Leicester have been without a manager since Enzo Maresca left for Chelsea earlier this summer.
Earlier this month, talkSPORT reported Cooper was emerging as the leading contender for the job.
The Welshman has been out of work since he left Forest in December.
His potential appointment would prove a divisive one for Foxes fans, given his ties to Leicester’s east midlands rivals.
Leicester returned to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season, sealing promotion back to the top flight as champions.
