Delhi high court has granted six-week interim bail on medical grounds to RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s close aide Amit Katyal in a money laundering case linked to the land-for-railway-jobs scam. Katyal, arrested by ED on Nov 11, 2023, under various provisions of the PMLA, argued that after undergoing bariatric surgery, he required further treatment and care, which was not available in Tihar Jail.
ED opposed the bail, saying if there was any requirement of a special diet, it could be brought to the jail premises by way of home-cooked food for him. However, the high court observed that the petitioner’s dietary requirements were such that they could not be fulfilled in jail.
