Konami Basically Confirms Metal Gear Solid 4 Port In Master Collection Volume 2

Must read

Key Takeaways

  • It’s been a pretty open secret for some time now that Metal Gear Solid 4 is getting ported to modern consoles.
  • The official Metal Gear Solid website was saying it, leakers were saying it, and now even Konami is
    basically
    saying it.
  • This is a big deal because Metal Gear Solid 4 has never released on a console other than the PS3.

Konami has dropped a very obvious hint that all but confirms Metal Gear Solid 4 will be getting an HD port as part of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2.

Although Metal Gear Solid has spent most of the last decade being a little too stealthy, that’s all started to change over the last few years. Not only do we have a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 coming at some point in the next year, but we also received a new HD collection of the first three Metal Gear Solid games, titled the Master Collection Vol. 1.

The inclusion of that little “volume one” made it clear that Konami was planning on re-releasing more Metal Gear Solid games after the first collection was done and dusted. Leaks and datamines suggested that one of the games included in the second volume would be Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which is a big deal considering it’s never been released outside of the PS3.

Although you might expect Konami to play coy about the whole thing, it seems it doesn’t see the point in hiding it anymore. While speaking to IGN about the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami producer Noriaki Okamura was asked to address the rumours regaridng Metal Gear Solid 4 getting ported to modern consoles.

In response, Okamura cheekily said that Konami is definitely aware of “this situation” with Metal Gear Solid 4. After saying that he couldn’t comment right now, Okamura pointed out that fans can probably connect the dots over what might come after Vol. 1 contained Metal Gear Solid 1 – 3.

We definitely are aware of this situation with MGS4. Unfortunately, we can’t really say too much at the moment with Vol. 1 containing MGS 1-3 dot dot dot… you can probably connect the dots! Right now we still are internally concerned about what we should be doing for the future of the series. So sorry, we can’t really reveal anything at the moment. But stay tuned! – Noriaki Okamura

After all that, Okumura said that Konami is “internally concerned” about the future of Metal Gear Solid as a series and that it can’t reveal everything right now, but to stay tuned for information in the future. It’s about as close to a confirmation as you can get to Metal Gear Solid 4 being in Vol. 2, and that’s saying something considering it was found in the official website’s code.
