The contractor had been working on a major basement excavation and planned frame build at 18-19 Buckingham Gate in Westminster where two old houses have been demolished to make way for a luxury apartment complex,
Knight Build started work in March 2022 on the street where the average house price is £9.6m.
But the firm terminated its contract in June 2023 following payment delays with work stopped at the partially completed basement stage leaving a gap in the street.
The Enquirer understands that work up to that point was worth almost £7m.
Knight Build left in place props and supports to make the basement safe and was charging the client £25,000 a month for the hire of the kit.
But those payments started to lag and Knight Build has now issued a winding-up petition against the client in a bid to get all of its bills paid.
The property is owned by a Bahrain based investment fund.
Building control officers at Westminster Council are believed to have voiced their concerns to the client about the length of time work has been halted on the site.
