The King will plant the first sapling from the illegally felled Sycamore Gap tree in Windsor as a poignant symbol of his personal loss.
It has been given to Charles, patron of the National Trust, to mark Celebration Day, which encourages the public to remember those who have shaped us but are no longer here.
When it has matured it will be planted at Windsor Great Park for visitors to enjoy as “a symbol of the hope and beauty that can come from loss”, the conservation charity said.
The National Trust has successfully propagated 100 seeds and 40 cuttings taken from the Sycamore Gap tree
