Spaniards angered by the state’s reaction to the flooding disaster threw rocks and mud at King Felipe when he visited the disaster zone on Sunday.
The king’s bodyguards tried to shield him as an angry crowd in the worst-hit area of Paiporta attacked him, calling him a “murderer” and shouting “get out”.
The King and Queen Letizia were hit by mud and the official procession was temporarily blocked as police surrounded the monarch. The cars in their cavalcade also came under attack from rocks and mud. The king tried to calm the mood by talking with some young people who were shouting at him.
