It continued: “Last night, The King attended The Royal Variety Performance in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, held in the Royal Albert.

“A huge thank you to all the talented performers and those working behind-the-scenes who made the evening so special.”

The 76-year-old monarch made his first appearance at the show as patron of the Royal Variety Charity, following in the footsteps of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

On arrival, the King accepted flowers on behalf of Camilla from eight-year-old Iris King-Taylor and ten-year-old Louie Cooper.

Show hosts Alan Carr and Amanda Holden expressed their delight at the King’s presence despite his wife’s absence.

“His Majesty was amazingly charming – he said we definitely earned our pound that we got paid,” Holden remarked, adding: “I’ve always said out of everyone he’s got the best sense of humour in the whole of the Royal Family.”

One fan expressed their support for the monarch, wishing him a quick recovery.

They wrote: “That’s looks fun your majesty, I wish you are always in a good condition.”

Another fan said: “Love this! Thank you for sharing.”

Political comedian Matt Forde’s impression of Donald Trump drew an amused reaction from the King during the performance.

Confirming the Queen’s absence, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Following a recent chest infection, The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, as a result of which doctors have advised that, after a busy week of engagements, Her Majesty should prioritise sufficient rest.

“With great regret, she has therefore withdrawn from attendance at tonight’s Royal Variety Performance. His Majesty will attend as planned.”

A royal source also told GB News: “[She’s] naturally disappointed to miss the evening’s entertainments, and sends her sincere apologies to all those involved, but is a great believer that the show must go on.

“She hopes to be back to full strength and regular public duties very soon.”
