King Charles and Queen Camilla travel in carriage amid monarch’s cancer battle

King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled in a carriage at Trooping the Colour today, amid the monarch’s cancer battle.

The King, 75, and Queen, 76, rode in a horse-drawn carriage to celebrate the monarch’s official birthday parade.

Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles would ride in a carriage as opposed to on horseback while he is undergoing cancer treatment.

In February, it was announced the monarch was diagnosed with a form of cancer after having corrective surgery on an enlarged prostate.

Subsequently, the monarch stepped back from public-facing royal duties for two months to focus on his treatment.

In April, it was confirmed by the Palace that he would begin attending royal duties again, with Charles even travelling abroad to France in June to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Despite battling cancer, the 75-year-old monarch was resolute about participating in today’s official birthday festivities.

However, adjustments had to be made to the annual event’s proceedings to accommodate his health situation.

Buckingham Palace and the Ministry of Defence have spent weeks deliberating potential modifications.

One such modification is that the King joined Camilla in a carriage as opposed to riding on traditional horseback.

His eldest son and heir, Prince William, rode on horseback alongside his uncle, Prince Edward.

Prince Harry did not join the Royal Family at Trooping the Colour as he moved to the US with his wife, Meghan Markle, four years ago.

Princess Kate, 42, made her first public appearance in 2024 today.

The Princess of Wales has not been seen in public since Christmas Day in 2023, when she joined the Royal Family at Sandringham.

She was diagnosed with a form of cancer earlier this year and began a course of preventative chemotherapy.

However, she joined Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, at Trooping the Colour today.
