Kim Jong-un checks out North Korea resort with military past

If your idea of fun in the sun is relaxing on a beach once used as a missile test site by the North Korean military, Kim Jong-un has an offer for you.

The North Korean leader toured the Wonsan Kalma beach resort, a new destination for visitors on the east coast of the reclusive communist state, over the weekend as the country prepared to reopen for tourism this year.

State media carried photographs of Kim and his daughter and presumed successor, Kim Ju-ae, walking along the beach and through newly completed hotel guestrooms and facilities.

The resort was built over seven years by the North Korean military but delayed by the pandemic. It has 7,000 rooms in hotels and hostels stretching over an area
