“Keep your eyes open!” – Si King teases Dave Day future

Must read

The Hairy Biker was speaking to Chris Evans on the Virgin Radio breakfast show ahead of the release of the latest cookbook created by Si and the late Dave Myers.

Si took the time to reflect on the celebrations that took place in Barrow on June 8, highlighting the ‘love and kindness’ shown by residents in the area.

He said: “It was one the most wonderful days of my life, and for Lili (Myers), and for everyone involved with the bikers.

“Barrow was absolutely fantastic – people opened their homes if there was nowhere to stay, and others were saying ‘leave your bike in the backyard’.”

Dave Day was designed to honour the life of the TV chef following his death in February after a two-year battle with cancer.

The massive event saw motorbike enthusiasts ride from London to Barrow, with Si detailing how 46,000 bikers eventually created a procession that reached 13 miles long.

“We were expecting maybe 5,000, 6,000, 10,000 bikers at a push,” he explained.

“I turned round to Woody [Jason Woodcock, who helped create Dave Day] and said ‘I’m never letting you organise something again’!

“It was an opportunity for the biking community to get together which is always something to look forward to.”

For Si, attention is currently placed on ‘Our Family Favourites’, the new Hairy Bikers cookbook that is set to be released on Thursday, October 24.

But the TV personality still made sure to cast his eye on the future and what it holds for Barrow.

“All I know is that Lili is planning something – so keep your eyes open,” he said.

“I just wanted this year to plan and to think and to have some space to grieve my best mate.”
