On September 17, Kate Middleton held her first official meeting in the Windsor Castle offices she shares with Prince William following the end of her cancer treatments. This week, the princess tapped a special guest to join her in the office as a palace coworker for the day. Liz Hatton, a 16-year-old suffering from an aggressive form of cancer, brought her camera to photograph an investiture that William was hosting Wednesday, and the event was followed by a private meeting with the couple.
Afterward, Kate and William took to Instagram to share photos and a personal message from the Wednesday meeting. “A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today,” the caption read. “A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us.” It was signed with their first initials and a red heart emoji.

In May, Hatton’s mother Vicky Robanya shared that her daughter was working through a “photography bucket list” following her diagnosis, and the list included her desire to see some of her photographs published in major magazines. According to the Daily Mail, Hatton’s story was brought to William and Kate’s attention through his association with the London Air Ambulance charity.
In the September 9 video where Kate shared that her chemotherapy treatments had concluded, she also offered a message of support to others who are facing cancer. “To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey—I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand,” she said. “Out of darkness can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
Following her announcement, Kensington Palace said the princess was planning “a light program of work” for the rest of the year, along with a tentative appearance at Remembrance Day ceremonies in November. Last week, She also got the opportunity to see a performance of Giselle by the English National Ballet in London.
