Good Morning Britain fans were surprised to see Kate Garraway replaced by Trisha Goddard in the latest presenter shake-up on Tuesday.

The Hackney-born broadcaster, aged 66, joined Richard Madeley to co-host the programme this Tuesday as they tackled the day’s biggest news items.

Viewers were quick to express their delight at the change on social media, with some advocating for Trisha to be given a permanent role on the show.

“I am loving Trisha on #GMB Please can she stay forever,” one viewer implored, while another shared: “It’s refreshing to have Trisha on @GMB. Can’t we have her as a regular co-presenter for @susannareid100? The current male lineup isn’t great, bring in Trisha full time! #gmb.” (sic).

“Love Trisha, hope she’s back on as a regular #GMB,” commented a third fan.

“Love Richard and Trisha on GMB a very professional pairing,” praised another, while a different viewer complimented: “I love Trisha very much, she is a very talented journalist.”

This comes after an episode on Monday where Kate was seen dealing with a personal emergency live on air, with her co-host Richard commenting on her distraction with her phone during an ad break. reports the Mirror.

While Kate did not disclose details about the incident, she has had to previously take time off from her GMB role due to her father Gordon’s health issues, who suffered a suspected stroke and heart attack. Nonetheless, Trisha’s appearance on the show had been scheduled in advance.

During an interview on Good Morning Britain with Kate and fellow host Ed Balls, it was revealed that the ex-talk show host would be guest presenting the programme on Tuesday and Wednesday (August 14, 2024).

She candidly expressed: “I’m not normally nervous, I have to say,” acknowledging the increased tension she felt being interviewed compared to hosting. “That bit I’m not nervous about, and I said before this bit I’ve been shaking like a chihuahua.”

The discussion also touched upon her battle with terminal breast cancer. Trisha’s engagement with Good Morning Britain coincides with Ed’s announcement that he’s taking a hiatus from the show until September.

On Monday, Ed posted on his Instagram, sharing an image of himself with a pavlova and a selfie alongside Kate.

His caption read: “What better way to celebrate the start of summer holidays than with a pavlova – our family favourite”, followed by words of affection for his time working with Kate through “loved working with Kate last week during such national turbulent times.”

Adding his plans for return, he stated: “I’m back with Susanna (Reid) at the beginning of September when schools and Parliament return – see you soon.”
