Must read

Jeff Goldblum will portray the King of the Gods himself, Zeus, in a brand new Netflix series entitled Kaos.

The streaming service debuted the first trailer for the series, which puts a contemporary spin on the gods and goddesses of Greek mythology.

The show follows Zeus, long entrenched as the King of the Gods, who wakes up one day and sees a wrinkle on his forehead.

He believes that wrinkle is a sign that an ancient prophecy foretelling his downfall is coming to fruition.

The eight-episode series from creator Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World) debuts on Netflix August 29.

The trailer begins with a shot of Goldblum’s Zeus, and then one of a huge statue depicting him as he’s heard saying, ‘King of the goddamn gods.’

Zeus is seen walking in public as some common humans don’t seem to notice him, which clearly frustrated the King.

‘Humans, when they’re not scared, they’re not worshipping me,’ he says, as he seemingly plans some mass destruction events.

‘I think my favorite is fire,’ Zeus says, as he turns on the television and sees a massive fire spreading, when Zeus’ wife Hera (Janet McTeer) walks in.

‘Look at what we’ve done,’ Zeus says, as Hera responds, ‘Very good,’ as we see shots that showcase this modern world known as Olympia with a mass worship happening.

A mortal woman Riddy (Aurora Perrineau) has had enough of the gods, stating, ‘The gods, they don’t give a s**t about any of us! I defy the gods!’

As resistance to the gods grows, Zeus says, ‘I’m gonna wipe these f***ers right off the face of the f***ing Earth as we get a glimpse of Poseidon (Cliff Curtis).

‘The war has begun,’ Hera says as we see a number of dramatic shots that climaxes with a shot of Zeus’ estate atop Mount Olympus.

Dionysus (the God of Excess) tells Hera to, ‘Suck a d**k,’ as Zeus says, ‘Hey, you do not tell your mother to suck a d**k.’

‘She’s not my mother,’ Dionysus says, referring Zeus’ affair with Semele in the myths, as an angry Zeus widens his eyes and seemingly makes Dionysus slam his head into the table as the trailer comes to an end.

The project was first ordered to series back in June 2018 and also stars David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Stephen Dillane as Prometheus, Killian Scott as Orpheus, Misia Butler as Caeneus, Stanley Townsend as Minos, and Leila Farzad as Ari.
