Kane manifesting first trophy success to put Euro 2020 final defeat behind him

Must read

Harry Kane is bidding to end his long-awaited search for silverware – and would swap all his individual accolades to fire England to a first major trophy in 58 years.

The Three Lions skipper came close to lifting the European Championship three years ago, but it was Italy who prevailed on penalties in the final.

And now the Bayern Munich striker has been given the dream chance to exorcise his Euro 2020 demons by firing Gareth Southgate’s side to Euro 2024 glory against Spain on Sunday – live on talkSPORT.

Kane goes into the final in Berlin as the joint top scorer of the tournament having banged in three goals from six games.

Despite boasting a catalogue of individual awards and records, it is a major trophy that has eluded the Tottenham legend so far in his career – something he is dreaming about ending.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s England correspondent Faye Carruthers, Kane was asked whether he is manifesting lifting the European Championship trophy.

To which he said: “I do like to manifest, me and my wife Kate talk about manifesting quite a lot, she’s big on it.

“So I think it is good to manifest stuff, especially sending positive energy out there, and that’s what we need.

“You can’t be afraid to say that you want to win the trophy or that we want to win [against Spain], we do, we desperately want to win.

“I think the more you can send positive energy to the players, the people around you, to the fans, we’ve felt that energy building – especially after the last couple of games.”

He then added of his search for silverware: “Football motivates me, winning trophies motivates me.

“As we know, I haven’t quite done that in my career yet and this is an opportunity to win one of the biggest there is.

“And to win one for your nation is pretty much as big as it comes, so that’s a great and an exciting opportunity to have.

“It’s been a lot of hard work from throughout my career and also the team since Gareth has been here to arrive at moments like this, and you have to take these when they come.”

Kane would swap all the personal accolades he has picked up on his career for England Euros glory.

He said: “Would I swap all the top-scorer trophies for the Euros? Yeah, for sure.

“No question, I would swap everything I’ve done in my career to have a special night and a win.

“It’s no secret I haven’t won a team trophy and every year that goes by you’re more motivated to change that.

“I have the opportunity to win one of the biggest trophies you could ever win and to make history with my nation.

“I’m extremely proud to be English. I’m determined to make it a special night.”

Rene Meulensteen & Simon Jordan disagree on whether Harry Kane should be dropped for the Euro 2024 final

Commenting on England’s chances of Euros glory, he stated: “I have full belief in myself, I have full belief in the team.

“We’ve come through a lot in this tournament, we’ve shown great resilience and we’re going to need everyone – whether that’s the starting XI or the subs – we’re all going to be part of a big night. We’re all desperate to make it successful.”

And Kane believes the pain – and experience of the Wembley heartache against Italy – has helped himself and his teammates in their preparations.

He remarked: “I think it helps with the situations of dealing with everything that comes with a final, it’s not just the game it’s media attention, fan attention.

“It’s about not getting too carried away, the last one was in England so it was hard not to see and feel everything, here it’s a little bit calmer.

“The lads that were involved in that one are dealing with it a bit better, but as always, you can talk as much as you want, but it’s about what you do on the pitch.”
