Kamala Harris will be the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate after she secured the support of enough delegates to confirm her as the first woman of colour to run for the White House.
Jaime Harrison, chair of the Democratic National Committee, confirmed on Friday that the vice-president would be the party’s candidate to take on Donald Trump, the Republican nominee.
The online voting process will not end until Monday, but Harris’s campaign marked the moment that she crossed the threshold to have the majority of delegates’ votes. “We have a lot of work to do,” Harris told supporters. “It’s good work. I am honoured to be the presumptive Dem nominee.”
