Justin Bieber reportedly hopes that ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez is ‘happy’ following her engagement to Benny Blanco but admits it ‘stung’ to hear the news.
Bieber, 30, and Gomez, 32, had a high-profile love affair from 2010 to 2018, leaving many fans devastated and shocked when Bieber married now-wife Hailey Baldwin just months after splitting from Gomez for good.
Music producer Blanco, 36, proposed to Gomez last week after over a year of dating, with Selena sharing the news via an Instagram carousel on Wednesday, showing off an enormous ring.
She wrote in the caption: ‘Forever begins now…’
Benny commented on the post: ‘Hey wait… that’s my wife.’
Taylor Swift was among the superstars celebrating the news in the comments below, chimed in with: ‘Yes I will be the flower girl’ alongside Jennifer Aniston who wrote, ‘HONEY!! Congratulations sweet mama!’
Many have wondered how Bieber feels about the news, with plenty of speculation spreading online.
Now, insiders have revealed to DailyMail.com that Bieber does view the news as the ‘end of an era.’
‘Justin is married and has a kid, we all know that but when he heard that Selena was engaged, he’ll even admit, it stung for a brief second,’ the source said.
‘Because even though they will never be friends or date again or anything like that, it is officially the end of an era.’
The source continued: ‘His past is so connected with Selena, and now that she is engaged, he is married and a father, it’s a bit of a shock to the system that everyone is getting older.
‘Justin is only 30, but he has lived a life, and an important part of his past is now officially moved on just as much as he has moved on. He won’t be stressing much about it and hopes that she is well and happy at the end of the day.’
The Only Murders In The Building actress first confirmed romance rumours with Blanco back in 2023, when she responded ‘Facts.’ to a post from Popfactions after the Instagram page said she ‘seemingly confirms’ that she is ‘in a relationship.’
After a fan shaded their relationship in the comments of the post, she replied: ‘Lol yeah and he’s still better than anyone I’ve ever been with. Facts.;
She added: ‘He has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me.’
‘He is my absolute everything in my heart,’ she wrote under a post on fan page @Selenagomezbr2.0, while in she revealed their have been together for six months.
Earlier this year, Blanco also made it clear how he feels about Gomez, saying during an appearance on the Howard Stern Show: ‘When I look at her … I’m always just like, I don’t know a world where it could be better than this.’
Speaking to Time Magazine, Gomez previously revealed that she’d had plans to adopt a baby before getting together with Blanco.
She shared that she got ‘used to’ being alone before the music producer came along, and had considered adopting a child when she turned 35, if she was still single.
‘I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it,’ she said.
‘Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone.’
In 2019, after splitting from Bieber, Gomez wrote a song about the breakup called Lose You To Love Me.
In her documentary In My Mind and Me she said of the song: ‘It’s about more than a lost love. It’s me learning to choose myself, to choose life, but also hoping that people can find grace and peace in that too.’
‘The song is about knowing that you completely lost every part of who you are just to rediscover yourself again.’
‘Everything was so public,’ Selena reflected of their split. ‘I felt haunted by a past relationship that no one wanted to let go of. Then I just moved past it, and I wasn’t afraid anymore.
‘I feel like I had to go through the worst possible heartbreak ever and then just forgetting everything at the drop of the hand, it was really confusing.
‘But I just think that needed to happen and ultimately it was the best thing that ever happened to me.’
Earlier this year Bieber and wife Hailey announced the arrival of their first baby.
The couple, who tied the knot in a secret ceremony in New York in 2018, announced the pregnancy earlier this year with video and images from a photoshoot of Hailey debuting her bump.
