Jude Bellingham has been warned to not get “too cocky” by ex-Germany star Christoph Kramer
Jude Bellingham has been cautioned by ex-Germany star Christoph Kramer to “be careful” about becoming too arrogant.
The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder labelled Bellingham “irritating” and stressed the importance of the young talent keeping a check on his conduct in the limelight, reports the Express. Kramer admitted that the 21-year-old is an “outstanding” player for both Real Madrid and England.
However, he urged the midfield maestro to consider his behaviour following the tournament. Bellingham proved to be England’s saviour on Sunday night as his last-gasp overhead kick forced extra time against Slovakia in their round-of-16 clash.
The goal sparked wild celebrations from Bellingham, who was seen striking a pose with skipper Harry Kane after levelling the score. The jubilant scenes captured the hearts of England fans worldwide, with supporters applauding the star for rescuing the team.
Despite the excitement, Kramer, capped 12 times by Germany, has warned Bellingham to “be careful”. He advised the ex-Birmingham City man to stay grounded and avoid getting ahead of himself with overconfidence.
“He is of course an outstanding player, he just has to be careful overall that he doesn’t start getting too cocky at such a young age,” Kramer told ZDF. He then added: “What I always find really bad is when you wave off your team-mates. He had a few gestures in there, even in the last few games.
“After the tournament, during the summer break, I hope he reflects a bit. I don’t think I’m the only one who says he can be irritating sometimes,” Kramer continued.
On the subject of playing under pressure, Bellingham admitted to the BBC: “Playing for England is an enjoyable feeling but it’s also a lot of pressure. You hear people talk a lot of rubbish. It’s nice when you can deliver and give them a little bit back.”
UEFA has launched an inquiry into Bellingham’s actions following his goal celebration against Slovakia. He is accused of making an ‘X-rated’ gesture reportedly aimed at the opposing team’s bench. He could face a fine or a potential ban if he’s found to have breached the ‘basic rules of decent conduct.’
