Jose Mourinho offered unusual new job amid Chelsea third spell links

Must read

Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly been offered a role in Saudi Arabia – which he has never previously taken on.

According to Sportitalia, ambitious second-tier club Al-Qadisiyah have approached the Portuguese head coach with the opportunity to become their new technical director. This position would be a change of pace for Mourinho, considering he has previously worked as either a manager, assistant, or translator for Sir Bobby Robson.

Being a technical director at a club may appeal to Mourinho after his time at AS Roma ended with a disappointing sacking. In this role, he would be asked to oversee the entire football operations at the Saudi club, from player recruitment to managerial appointments.

Mourinho has also expressed his intention to one day work in the Middle East. “I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there,” he said.

“I don’t know when, but I am pretty sure of it. No one knows the future, but I will definitely do this. Doors are always open for me in Saudi Arabia. I want to feel the development there.”

Whether Mourinho makes the switch to Saudi Arabia could depend on what happens on the managerial front in Europe over the coming weeks. The 61-year-old has been linked with a third stint at Chelsea should Mauricio Pochettino be sacked.
