Jose Mourinho hires Manchester United ally after agreeing Fenerbahce deal

Must read

Jose Mourinho is reportedly close to securing another Manchester United reunion when he takes over as the new manager at Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The ex-United boss is edging closer to returning to management after leaving AS Roma earlier this season. It’s believed that Mourinho will sign a two-contract at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Fenerbahce confirmed they had opened negotiations with Mourinho earlier in the week and the Portuguese confirmed his intention to move to Istanbul. Upon his arrival at Wembley Stadium for Saturday night’s Champions League final, he was quizzed on the imminent move.

“I decided I want to go but it is not done yet. I cannot confirm officially, but yes I want to go,” he disclosed to Sky Sport. “Hard, because we have three rounds to go in [Champions League qualification].

“In Fenerbahce’s case, eight players are in the Euros. They are not coming for pre-season before the first round so its hard. But if I go, you know I like challenges, so if I go you know we will fight hard to be in the Champions League.”

When Mourinho starts work at Fenerbahce, he will be reunited with former United midfielder Fred. And according to The Telegraph, trusted assistant Ricardo Formosinho, who worked with him at Old Trafford and Tottenham, will join him.
