Chelsea have started talks with the representatives of Jonathan David over a possible move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

football.london understands that the 24-year-old is eager to seal a move away from Lille this summer. David, who has been on Chelsea‘s radar for the last couple of years, has just over 12 months remaining on his contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Chelsea are in the market for another centre-forward to provide competition and support for Nicolas Jackson, who was the Blues’ only natural striker option for large parts of last season. There are a number of options on the club’s radar but David is now being strongly considered.

Talks have taken place with the Canada international’s representatives to see if he would be interested in switching the north of France for west London. However, nothing has been decided yet from Chelsea’s point of view about whether they will make an official move for the striker.

It was another brilliant season for David in France with the Lille striker netting 26 goals in 47 games in all competitions last campaign. A selfless yet ambitious striker, David has already told Chelsea the sort of player they would be getting if they were to sign him this summer.

“To be honest, I’m not really looking to be the headline player,” David said in an interview with Soccer Bible in 2021. “I’m a striker, so my job is to score goals.
