John Lewis Partnership has axed its short-lived chief executive role as Jason Tarry, its new chairman, takes charge of a turnaround.
The employee-owned retailer, which runs the department store chain and Waitrose supermarkets, said that Nish Kankiwala, its chief executive, would revert to the role of non-executive director in March next year.
Kankiwala, a former Hovis and Burger King executive, had been chief executive since March 2023, when the position was created under Dame Sharon White, its former chairwoman.
He said he agreed to take on the post for two years as the group embarked on a turnaround plan to help to see it through an “intense transformation”.
